26.01.2010 January 26, 2010 We Ask James Roday (PSYCH) about Love
How’s it going?
James Roday (JR): What’s up Martin, how’re you doing man?
I’m pretty good. I was hoping you would tell us a little about Extinction, it’s opening next month in Manhattan right?
JR: Dude that’s true, that’s awesome. Thank you for mentioning that. And it is sort of, it does come back to Psych actually. It’s a play that I did in Los Angeles opposite Michael Weston who played Adam Hornstock, Esq., in Cloudy Chance of Murder. And Amanda Detmer who played Ciaobella Masterson in Black and Time, Crime of Fashion.
12.01.2010 James Roday and Michael Weston Take EXTINCTION Off-Broadway, 2/13 - 3/14
James Roday, star of the hit television series "Psych," and Michael Weston of TV's "House" will play two friends on a reckless weekend in Gabe McKinley's new play EXTINCTION, previewing Off-Broadway on Feb 13, 2010 prior to its official press opening February 17 at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.) in Manhattan. Wayne Kasserman directs.
Mr. Roday and Mr. Weston reprise their roles Off-Broadway in EXTINCTION following its acclaimed, sold-out run this past fall in Los Angeles at the Elephant Space theatre in Hollywood in a production praised by Variety as "the creative meat of a truly talented writer...a very dark view of the sexes." The L.A. Times wrote that the play "enters unexplored, murky corners and is uniquely unsettling."
05.01.2010 'Psych' stars gear up for an explosive 2010
You guys have always had great chemistry on the show, but what’s changed over the course of four seasons?
Roday: What’s evolved is our actual characters. The more we’ve discovered about these guys and the more layers we’ve peeled off, the more latitude we’ve had as actors to sort of go there with it. It’s like you take that little first piece off a toolbox and you realize there’s all that [stuff] underneath. It’s like, “Oh my gosh, look at all these other tools we have!” Especially for Dule, because he’s a handyman and an orchardman. He gets very excited about tools.
Hill: To a certain extent, it seems like night and day when you go back and watch one of the earlier episodes up till now. The more time you spend with anybody, as long as the relationship says solid, we continue to grow as actors, grow in our characters, learn more about our characters and our relationship with each other on the show, and start to have more fun, too. The longer we do it, it gets better and better.
In your first episode back later this month, the guest stars are Rachael Lee Cook and pro wrestler John Cena. Who gets to face off with Cena?
Roday: He plays the brother of Juliet, Maggie Lawson’s character. We kinda got to pal around with him mostly, which was awesome.
Hill: There’s a little bit of jealousy going on, because everyone’s in awe of this special forces guy.
Roday: He’s the sort of guy who knows how to kill people with his thumbs. I don’t know if you’ve spent a lot of time around men that large, but you immediately feel very small and boy-like again. It was sort of like being back in elementary school for a week and a half. He would pick us up and set us on things. It was a lot of fun.
Hill: He did a very good job, too. People will be very impressed with the work he did.
Who else were you psyched to work with this season?
Hill: Judd Nelson’s coming on, so that rounds out our Brat Pack thing a little more.
Roday: We’ve referenced him about 10 times on our show, so to actually have him come in was pretty cool.
James, a lot of people still remember your work in The Dukes of Hazzard movie a few years back. Any other film roles coming up?
Roday: I just signed up for Dukes of Hazzard 3 through 7. The first two are going straight to DVD, the last three you won’t be able to see on any format of any kid, but I look forward to regrowing the ‘stache and reprising the role that sort of set my career aflame. [Laughs] I don’t know what movies I’m going to be in, man. It’s a weird time out there right now. I feel we’re very, very lucky to be on a TV show that people dig and that people watch. Just getting in a movie is hard enough – getting in a movie that’s actually decent, whew, those are hard to come by right now. I’ve been working on a play that has been more fulfilling than I could ever possibly imagine. Dule and I have actually been talking about possibly moving it from L.A. to New York soon. I have to say, that vs. going to make a crummy movie that I probably wouldn’t be that proud of or wouldn’t want people to see is kind of a no-brainer. read more...

21.10.2009 James Roday and Michael Weston Star In EXTINCTION 11/21-12/13
James Roday (USA Network's Psych), Michael Weston (Fox's House) and Amanda Detmer (ABC's Private Practice) star in the world premiere of Gabe McKinley's Extinction, a darkly funny exploration of the evolution of friendships - and the lengths to which we go to save them from dying out. Wayne Kasserman directs the Red Dog Squadron production, which also features Stefanie E. Frame. Performances take place November 21 through December 13 at Elephant Space in Hollywood.
College buddies Max (Weston) and Finn (Roday) meet in Atlantic City, where they traditionally spend their vacations in the fast lane, religiously drinking, drugging and chasing women. But this time something is different, and thwarted expectations precipitate a dangerous showdown between the two friends.
I have added 2 new HQ episode stills to the gallery.. I have also added 2 Psychouts, and a video of James at the 2009 Alma Awards (thanks Revital!). The videos can be seen in the VIDEO ARCHIVE and JMTUBE.
